happy mother’s day

for the last two weeks carol and i have had the pleasure of a very special houseguest: my mom. it’s been nice because she’s taken so much of the load off carol and giving her a bit of a break, but it’s also been good because we haven’t seen each other in nearly 6 months....

Jimmy Allison - How lucky we are; those of us that had mothers who made sure to guide our trip to adulthood with the important values.
Even when we didn’t understand why we knew they were grounded in love. Thanks for the inspiration, Will.

picture of contentment

carol - Thanks for being there for Will, Marco. And thanks for being my friend too.

May 7, 2010 - 1:35 pm

Marco - Thank you for those kind words, Will. I’m humbled. I remember that riding day in Milano like it was yesterday along with hundreds of other adventures we’ve shared. I’m glad you didn’t choose to post the picture of me after I launched my 400 into the pond that I didn’t know was there or the one of me pouring water out of my boots. We all had a good laugh over that one! My friendship with you and Carol has made me a much better person and I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve learned from you over the years especially this last difficult year for you both.

last year carol and i were in belgium on valentine’s day, and i couldn’t just run out to hallmark and buy a card. so, i did this post instead. i guess two years in a row makes it a tradition. lots has changed since then, but one thing that hasn’t is that it’s a happy...

Qiana - I like!

happy father’s day, mad hatter!

my father is a bit mad – in a mad scientist sort of way – and he has this thing about hats. baseball players are probably most well known for rituals involving headgear – the astros’ craig biggio is famous for a lot of things, but refusing to wash his batting helmet for an entire...

Jerry Welch - I read many news releases and stories in the 60s and 70s about that Pattison guy when he was farming the Legislature. Santa Fe required the speaker very much like we could use Newt back at the helm in DC.
Great to see the farm and genius inventor side of your dad, When I was on the radio in Clovis, I didn’t visit farms a lot…Great to see the greatness in another light how creative!

Go Hoyt! On Pinta! I can see that dust flying now.

Karen Cheney - Hi, you don’t know me but I have heard about your Dad for years, (25 to be exact). I am married to STeven Cheney (Lois and Glen Cheney’s first and tallest born son)and have loved hearing the stories and I still send Christmas letters to your Mom and Dad. I used to live in Clovis, NM a long time ago-on Hockenhull St and went to Sandia Elementary. My Dad was stationed at Cannon
AFB. Wish I could have met him at some point in time but feel I know him a bit through Steven. What an amazing man and wish that Steven’s Dad was still around as I am sure they would be having some interesting conversations and coming up with all the answers we young folks (I just turned 50) thought we already had. Steven was sitting in front of the computer when his Mom had forwarded this to us and I could hear all the way across the house ‘Yep, that’s Hoyt.” and his booming laugh. What great memories he has. Thanks for sharing! Blessings, Karen Cheney, Gig Harbor, WA

Lois Cheney Gnegy - Thank you, Will, for this delightful blog. What a marvelous invention! Hoyt and Joy have been in my life since 1954, three days after Glen and I came to Clovis. Glen was a new 2nd Lt. and I his new bride. The friendship was immediate and has remained strong. So many memories, but one especially remembered was July 4th, 1956, when Glen offered to help Hoyt with combining. It was a hot 103 degrees that day. Joy and I were at the house with Rose Ellen and Steven, feeling sorry for ourselves and the guys out in the heat. At supper time, we cooked chicken on the low grill! Glen was washing up when the dog of the time saw an opportunity. Dog quickly took his share of the feast and began to saunter off with Glen’s meal. There was only one thing to do! I grabbed it, put it back on the grill and Glen never did know the truth. We were all too tired and hot to care! Better days followed. Happy 80th, Hoyt! Lois and Bob

jwalton - hey will, not sure we have ever met but i grew up down the road from where you grew up. my grandfather is Marvin Walton, my dad is Joe. You are an awesome inspiration for what you have overcome since the motocross accident. i absolutely love reading your blogs, especially this one. i have spent my whole life on that farm and it brings great pleasure to see “dead” vehicles brought back to life. im almost 100% positive that the old 915 combine that Hoyt made into a spray rig is our old combine. that blasted thing sat for 3 years 30 feet from my front door. i was so glad when you guys bought that machine from us, and even more ecstatic to see that that thing still moves! our family homesteaded im pretty sure right around the time your family did. our homestead was deaded to my late relatives the Palmateers, and it has been in our possession since 1907. i love to see how much this place has changed, and when that gets old i always go back out to the farm to clear my head. im glad you are doing so well with recovery, and keep up the great blogging!
