focal point

this image of a professional motocross rider charging out of a texas corner has always been one of my favorites because it’s all about the eyes. the throttle is wide open but this young athlete sees only his destination. this singularity of focus is what separates him from those who are behind him and that...

personal space

at this point, making new photographs for the blog is a bit challenging, so i’m falling back on some old favorites i can use as inspiration to express how things are going right now with my injury. one thing i’ve always thought a lot about is physical space, and in particular, the physical space that...

Melinda Sullivan - I feel your words. I grew up in the Texas Panhandle, daughter of a dry land farmer. As my space has grown smaller with my age, I have found my mind and soul have found grander boundaries. It works. Mike has shared your journey with me, and you and Carol are in my thoughts and prayers as you push through your boundaries. God bless you both! Melinda

Jonie Smith — Mark Bs old friend. - Will, I really enjoyed reading your blog. Beautiful words — took me straight to llano estacado and other quiet, wide-open spaces in my memories!

Mark and I were kids together in school — lived in the same part of town — kinda in the country. Apparently you two share the same creative gene!!

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and tell you my thoughts and prayers are with you and Carol.

Beth Johnston - Will, when I met you at Uncle Julio’s with MeMe, Phil and Dean, I took down your website because your photography was an inspiration to what can be achieved with a camera. Little did I know your site and words could be an inspiration for life! My heart broke when I read about your accident. It now soars.

Iron Arse - Will and Carol: Lyrics from U2′s song “Unknown Caller” I heard in Amsterdam. The whole song reminds me of y’all and especially, “Restart, reboot yourself”. Love the picture, but you see all the little weeds around the tree? That’s all of us out here thinking, praying and supporting you! Peace Brother…….

Marco - This post titled “solitude” is very timely for me, Will. I just returned from a week long business trip to Washington state. However, before coming home, I rented a Yamaha, V-Start 1800cc Raider the last two days and just took off, by myself, to the North Cascades the first day and the “solitude” of the ride to Grand Coulee Dam the second day. Being on a big motorcycle with nothing but the low rumble of two big cylinders and wide open spaces in front me gave me the mental recharge I so needed. You’ve been there. You know what its like. I treasure the rides and memories we’ve had and anxiously wait our next ones together.

Mike Roark - Will, you really brought back memories for me with this blog. Your description of wheat harvest brought back all those feelings for me as well. Since I grew up less than four miles from your house, I can definitely relate. Keep up the fight. I look forward to the day when I can enjoy your motocross pictures again. Andrew says to tell you hello, as well. The pictures you took of him in the Sunbelt series are some of his most cherished photos.
