what would brett do?

okay, so the last couple of blog posts were a nice sort of return to normalcy for me, but i think i have about beaten the iphone and at&t horse senseless, so enough of that. besides, the only thing the apple illuminati want to talk about now is the new ipad just announced last week. it looks pretty cool but basically it’s just an overgrown ipod touch. i think it would be a fun and probably useful gadget, but i’m not sure it’s the right thing to replace my aging laptop when the time comes. time will tell, though. it may be that jobs has yet again reinvented the way we interact with our devices, and will have yet another blockbuster.

anyhow, i’ve had a pretty tough week of physical therapy, with the expected consequences. it’s pretty hard to get into the creative process when it feels like someone is using your body as a personal test bench for their belt sander. matt, my monday, wednesday, friday physical therapists promised me a beat down on to finish the week and he delivered in spades. 90 minutes of exercise with 5 pound weights strapped to each ankle has definitely packed me into the hurt locker.

problem is i have not done with all the little red phone booth images. i only have one more and i guess i could wait until i get to working on images from england since this particular pair of booths was shot in london. but…i’m sort of trying to stick with a theme and i want this triptych of phone booths to stay together.

phone booths, london, 2009.

considering last weekend’s epic playoff games, one thing i could talk about is football, and i don’t mean the kind of football they play where i shot the images of the phone booths. i’m talking about real, smashmouth, knuckle-dragging american nfl football. you might have to be a football fan to appreciate the quarterback clinic put on by peyton manning against the new york jets, but i think even a soccer fan would have to appreciate what went on between the vikings and saints. more specifically, you especially have to appreciate the heroism of brett favre. i know, i know… he shouldn’t have thrown that pass at the end of the fourth quarter but farve has made 19 legendary years into a hall of fame career by not being afraid to throw the ball where somebody else would hesitate to.

what really did it for me though, was his toughness that day. i’ve always questioned the sanity of selecting professional athletes as role models but as i watched favre get viciously hit time after time last sunday, and time after time stagger heroically to his feet and continue to lead his team, it made me think about changing my standards. at no point was there ever any quit in him, and i don’t mind saying that when therapy got really hard yesterday, and i was ready to cry uncle, i asked myself, “what would brett favre do?”

Boyce - I recognize the phone booths. London is my favorite city for museums, even ahead of Washington, DC.
AT&T is the most dishonest phone company in business and always has been. Haven’t done business with them in 15 years and never will again.
I hope Farve plays one more year. He just might finish the job next time. Some DB’s for Vikes would help. Of course my Panthers might be good again.

Hoyt - Did you see his leg and ankle after the Saints game. It was bruised up really bad. Tough old guy. Good inspiration for sure.

Jonie - I was the only fan at my house rooting for the Vikings and may just root for Brett next year, too (except against the Cowboys, of course) if he goes for another season – wouldn’t surprise me. He’s tough – and a great role model for all of us. You stay tough, Will… You can do it.

Sandra D - When things get tough for me I ask myself; Self, what would Will do?
